Resources for the Public

Check out the "Interactive Childhood Scheduler." Go to http://www2a.cdc.gov/nip/kidstuff/newscheduler_le/ , plug in your child's birthdate and find out what immunizations he/she should have by that date.

A very excellent source of information for parents is at www.chop.edu which is the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Vaccine Education Center website and Dr. Paul Offit, who is a leading authority on Immunizations, is part of that site. They have additional information for children facing surgery, a virtual hospital tour, etc...all geared for kids.

The Institute for Vaccine Safety is based at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and provides excellent, thorough, and up-to-date information on vaccine safety. It is at www.vaccinesafety.edu

"What IF You Don't Immunize Your Child" addresses the debate (esp. out on the Internet) about the safety of immunizations and the false charges that pseudo-authorities are putting out to discourage immunizations. A very good educational brochure can be found at www.immunize.org/catg.d/p4017.htm to address this controversy. An excellent graph with a comparison of 20th century annual morbidity and 2004 morbidity from vaccine-preventable diseases is at www.immunize.org/catg.d/4037stop.pdf . Because we don't see vaccine-preventable diseases as often anymore, we forget how seriously they impact their victims' lives, and those of their families. Some victims recover after uncomfortable or difficult illnesses, others have complications which lead to lifelong disabilities. Sadly, some vaccine-preventable diseases claim the lives of their victims. Read real-life stories about different diseases at www.immunize.org/reports/ .
